PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:

At Travel and Leisure Co., our vision is to put the World on Vacation, in your positon as the Assistant Chief Engineer you will be responsible for performaing maintenance tasks throughout the property, including all maintenance issues, day to day functionality of the property and the protection of the asset to ensure it retains long-term viability.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: (Include but not limited to:)

Operations:

  • Assist the Chief Engineer in the effective leadership and day-to-day management of the Engineering and Landscaping Departments.
  • Lead, supervise, and support maintenance and landscaping teams to ensure the efficient operation and presentation of the Resort.
  • Oversee preventative and corrective maintenance programs across all Resort facilities, equipment, and infrastructure.
  • Ensure the ongoing maintenance and operation of guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house facilities, and all engineering systems, including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, power generation, water treatment, and sewage treatment systems.
  • Maintain Resort grounds, gardens, and outdoor areas to the highest standards of appearance, safety, and functionality.
  • Coordinate and monitor contractors, renovations, capital projects, and property improvement initiatives to ensure timely and quality completion.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain maintenance procedures, preventative maintenance schedules, and energy conservation programs in line with company standards.
  • Ensure compliance with Workplace Health & Safety requirements, environmental standards, company policies, and all relevant local regulations.
  • Assist in the preparation and management of departmental budgets, inventory control, procurement, and operational reporting.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, asset reliability, and guest satisfaction.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members while fostering a positive, accountable, and high-performing workplace culture.
  • Support the achievement of departmental objectives and perform other duties as required to meet the operational needs of the Resort.

General:

  • Participate in mandatory and additional learning to keep informed regarding company policy, management techniques and industry best practices for you and your team.

  • Ensure that all company policies and procedures are understood demonstrate your understanding through the performance of your duties.

Customer Service:

  • Respond to all guest requests in a timely manner to ensure memorable customer experience.
  • Adopt the Hospitality with HEART culture in regard to your personal presentation, interdepartmental interaction, networking and job request responses.
  • Display innovation through inspiring, creating and improving processes and products. 

OH&S

  • Take all actions to ensure the property is in good working condition with due regard to the health and safety of all persons.
  • Comply with industry best practice and company policy regarding all aspects of WH&S and fire safety for yourself and all other persons.

KEY POSITION CRITERIA:

  • Relevant trade qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, Refrigeration, Building Services, or a related Engineering discipline
  • Minimum of five years' experience in hotel, resort, facilities management, or engineering operations, with demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience
  • Possession of a Wireman’s Licence and/or HVAC Certification will be highly regarded
  • Proven ability to successfully manage and deliver projects within operational environments
  • Strong knowledge of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programs, including POMEC and HVAC systems
  • Experience overseeing construction, renovation, and landscaping projects.
  • Exceptional leadership, team management, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a proactive and innovative approach
  • Sound understanding of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements and commitment to maintaining a safe workplace
  • Flexibility to work a rotating roster, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, as required by business needs
  • Hold a current and valid Group 2 Driver’s Licence
