The Mainframe Platforms Engineer is responsible for technical expertise in the Mainframe platform department at T+L.  The department is responsible for delivery and support of all aspects of T+L’s Mainframe infrastructure environment which includes capacity planning, infrastructure buildout, availability monitoring, performance, and security management. Further, manages and coordinates projects to build and/or implement comprehensive integrated system solutions for IT customers, while maintaining a high level of service on production systems and anticipating future requirements, trends, and changes to assure current and future satisfaction of customer service within budget constraints.

How You'll Shine:

Provides technology expertise for T+L’s VM/VSE infrastructure environment. This is inclusive of interacting with our outsourcing vendor, directing their operational activities, coordinating incident response, providing project leadership and coordination for larger activities, availability monitoring, performance, and security management.

  • Maintains an advanced level knowledge of all products, technologies, tools, methodologies, and services used within the department.

  • Acquires and maintains working knowledge of business processes and procedures.

  • Interfaces with other teams, vendors, and business as part of the service and support process

  • Performs systems installation, administration, operations, maintenance, support, testing, upgrades, performance monitoring, business continuance, and documentation in accordance with company, vendor, and departmental standards, processes, templates, and tools.

  • Anticipates and identifies potential problems before they occur and implements solutions to minimize impact on projects and users.

  • Ensures adherence to formal processes, standards and total quality practices in all activities.

  • Drives technology innovation and process improvement efforts.

  • Perform On-call support.

  • Works with the DR group to provide documentation related to disaster recovery procedures and exercises.

  • Completes other assignments as requested by management.

AS400 platform leadership. Provides technology expertise for T+L’s AS400 infrastructure environment, which is inclusive of capacity planning, infrastructure buildout, availability monitoring, performance, and security management.

Acts as primary vendor contact for infrastructure questions related to Panorama’s zOS mainframe environment.

  • Maintains a positive and optimistic working environment.

  • Provides periodic reports to management and customers on the status of workflow and escalates deviations to management in a timely manner.

  • Maintains accurate reporting within Service now for Incident, Request, and Change control.

  • Provide weekly status reports detailing weekly project status and plans for the upcoming week.

Act as the technical expert to answer questions about the licensed software maintained on the mainframe environment.

  • Maintains an inventory of needed software licenses.

  • Acts as a technical contact with the vendors and purchasing department during contract renewals.

  • Provide recommendations on which software is needed, what level of licensing is appropriate, and options that are available to replace the software to reduce costs.

Works closely with Program Office, Strategy, Engineering, Architecture, and Support groups in achieving departmental and company commitments.

  • Manages timelines and progress of activities to ensure schedules and commitments are met.

  • Coordinates and facilitates the completion of workflow by individuals and project teams both inside and outside the IT organization.

  • Works closely with delivery organizations to develop project plans and forecasts for the delivery of solutions to the business.

  • Provides technology direction and guidance to business areas as appropriate.

  • Meets or exceeds schedules, budgets, and quality targets.

What You'll Bring:

  • At least 5 years of hands-on infrastructure management work on mainframe platforms.

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot in a crisis.

  • Ability to work with cross functional teams for in depth project planning and issue resolution.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Strong planning and project management skills

  • Adept at multi-tasking and developing others in a fast moving and changing environment.

  • Ability to learn and internalize information about new OS and software platforms via independent study of vendor documentation.

  • Ability to organize, create, follow and coordinate the update of documented processes.

  • Strong self-sufficiency and independent work ethic.

  • The ability to learn quickly, work autonomously and make sound decisions.

  • Results-oriented and able to deliver and lead delivery in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to organize, plan, exercise good judgment, and manage multiple requirements in a timely manner.

  • Excellent customer service, communication, and technical documentation skills

  • Ability to manage communications with business partners to achieve their objectives.

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office products to manage spreadsheets and presentations to communicate project status and business objectives.

  • Thorough knowledge of mainframe infrastructure platforms, including VM, VSE and AS400 required.

  • Knowledge of and experience with configuration and maintenance of mainframe platforms required.

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of best practices in planning, deploying, and managing infrastructure technologies required.

  • Experience working in multiple-site, multiple vendor team environment required.

  • Knowledge of the SDLC and ability to follow documented processes required.

  • 5+ years’ Broad in-depth knowledge for enterprise-wide implementation and supporting of enterprise mainframe products.

  • Hospitality industry IT is a plus.
