Job Summary:

The Corporate Sustainability Manager is a multifaceted and strategic position within a club resort, dedicated to leading and embedding sustainable practices across all operational levels. The goal is to ensure that all operations are conducted in an environmentally friendly and socially responsible manner, minimizing the ecological footprint while enhancing guest experiences and community engagement.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Operational Excellence & Strategic Support (50% of time)

  • Implementing comprehensive sustainability strategy that aligns with the resort's mission and operational framework. This involves the careful planning and execution of initiatives that promote environmental stewardship, energy efficiency, waste reduction, and the use of sustainable resources. Work very closely with ESG team to achieve organizational goals.
  • Embedding a culture of social responsibility and environmental awareness within the organization. The Sustainability Manager is tasked with influencing corporate culture to prioritize sustainability, encouraging every department and employee to incorporate eco-friendly practices into their daily operations and decision-making processes.
  • Aligning resort-level green teams with the organization's strategic objectives and goals through educating team members on sustainability practices and providing continuous support to achieve sustainability targets. Ensuring the resort's operations comply with local, national, and international environmental regulations and standards. The role involves a proactive approach to minimizing the resort's environmental impact, focusing on significant reductions in carbon emissions and waste production. 
  • Integrating sustainable practices into the guest experience, aiming to educate and engage guests in the resort's sustainability efforts. This includes the creation of experiences that highlight the resort's commitment to protecting the environment and contributing to a sustainable future.
  • Extending sustainability efforts beyond the resort to engage with and contribute to the local community. This involves building partnerships and initiating projects that support local development, environmental conservation, and the promotion of sustainable practices within the broader community.
  • Setting new benchmarks for sustainability in the hospitality industry. The Sustainability Manager is expected to lead by example, pioneering innovative sustainability practices that not only benefit the resort and its guests but also contribute to the global movement towards a more sustainable and environmentally conscious hospitality industry.
  • Oversee the resort's environmental initiatives including waste reduction, energy efficiency, water conservation, and sustainable sourcing.

Collaborative Partnerships (30% of time)

  • Support Corp. Director of Engineering to provide technical leadership to all engineering and development areas to facilitate technical decision-making with an emphasis on maintainability, scalability, and performance.
  • Collaborate with ESG team to drive greening and sustainability initiatives and establish key resort operations targets that align with the enterprise goal.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental laws and standards. Pursue relevant sustainability certifications. Ensure resort operations are compliant with all greening initiatives and requirements.
  • Work with various stakeholders, including employees, guests, local communities, and suppliers, to promote sustainability efforts.
  • Develop and conduct sustainability training programs for staff. Educate guests on the resort’s sustainable practices.
  • Monitor and report on sustainability performance, communicate initiatives and achievements to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Stay updated with sustainability trends and best practices. Implement innovative solutions to enhance sustainability.
  • Manage the sustainability budget and special approved funds (i.e. ECM, Insurance etc.) ensuring effective allocation of resources.

Vendor Management (20% of time)

  • Collaborate closely with the Strategic Sourcing team to assess and select key vendors, focusing on MSA agreements tailored to energy-saving systems and leak mitigation to reinforce our commitment to sustainability and diversity in our supplier network.
  • Provide essential support to the Corporate Director of Engineering by overseeing ongoing and forthcoming engineering programs and initiatives. Manage the intricacies of budget allocation, meticulous bidding processes, and thorough contract reviews, ensuring optimal utilization of resources.
  • Uphold stringent standards by ensuring vendors deliver comprehensive reports, empowering the operation with actionable insights for informed decision-making and continuous improvement.

Knowledge and skills

  • Knowledge of environmental science principles, sustainable development, and how these apply to business operations.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and standards at local, national, and international levels.
  • Skills in planning, executing, and managing projects, often with a focus on sustainability initiatives.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and report on sustainability metrics and environmental data.
  • Skills in engaging with and influencing a range of stakeholders, including employees, customers, suppliers, and community groups.
  • Strong communication skills for promoting sustainability practices both within and outside the organization.
  • Ability to develop and implement sustainability strategies aligned with the organization's goals.
  • Understanding of how environmental risks can impact business operations and the ability to develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Being innovative in finding sustainable solutions to business challenges.
  • Leading sustainability initiatives and working collaboratively with various teams across the organization, specifically our ESG team to ensure alignment with enterprise objectives.
  • Knowledge of CSR practices and how they integrate with sustainability goals.
  • Understanding of resource management, including energy, water, and waste, to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
  • Ability to conduct and interpret life cycle assessments of products or services.
  • Continual Learning: Staying updated with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in sustainability.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in WYNSOS, ISM, or similar maintenance systems.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Hostsos.

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science preferred, Sustainability, Hospitality Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years proven experience in sustainability management, preferably in the hospitality industry.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and sustainability certifications.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills.
