The Design Manager will manage Strategic Development’s internal/Outsource, Interior Designers and consultants to meet department and project goals and expectations. Project success is based on the proper management of Wyndham Destinations (WynD) brand standards, stakeholders input, budget, project location and current market influences. The Design Manager will assist in the updating of all Brand Design and FF&E Performance Standards and verify the designers/consultants maintain compliance with all current standards and design guidelines.

As an integral member of a fast paced and flexible team, the Design Manager will be required to interface with designers, resort managers, HOA board members, operational leaders, project managers, the procurement team, internal department associates and vendors, and must possess exceptional presentation and communication skills.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include the following, other duties may be assigned as necessary.

  • Assist the Department Director and/or Vice President with the daily operations of the Strategic Development Design Department.
  • Manage multiple Outsource processes, including:
    • The development of Requests For Proposal
    • Proposal evaluation and recommendation
    • Outsource Team on-boarding
    • Milestone Scheduling and updates
    • Project Monitoring
  • Manage multiple Interior Designers/consultants and support staff professionals.
  • Assist in the evaluation and updating of department revenue for the Strategic Development Design Department.
  • Assist in the evaluation and updating of the quarterly Project Matrix and the assignment of design teams to each of the projects.
  • Oversee the scheduling of all design-related tasks to ensure projects are completed per the schedule.
  • Oversee the completion of all design-related tasks while maintaining established budgets.
  • Work with the project managers, procurement team and other interior designers/consultants to coordinate renovation project efforts and provide the communication link between Strategic Development Design Department, Operational Vice Presidents/Directors, Resort Managers, HOA Board members and other stakeholders.
  • Strengthen and enforce the design department’s Process Workflow Narrative to clearly define milestones and work products.
  • Participate in the Quality Assurance/Quality Control process.
  • Manage and/or attend assigned Design Review Presentation meetings.
  • Participate in the Strategic Development Team, and Design Department staff meetings.
  • Travel to WynD resorts and perform on-site inspections and meetings, as needed. On-site work may involve the study of local context, field measuring, field verification, photo-documentation, close coordination with designers, contractors, vendors and the operations team.
  • Work in a spirit of team, assisting with project details where needed including drawing/documentation, spec writing, RFI responses and problem solving as they arise.
  • Design Manager will design one or two projects annually. This includes concept development, presentations, full documentation and spec writing, construction administration and project closeout.  
    Qualifications
  • Education and/or Experience

    Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from a CIDA accredited program or equivalent preferred.

    8 years progressive responsibility in hospitality design with a leading hospitality design firm(s) or company with experience in hotel and timeshare. Hospitality renovation experience is required. Experience can be substituted for education in a related field on a year for year basis.

  • Must be a team player and understand the importance that each position plays in the department and overall project delivery process.
  • College level writing and oral communication skills are required. This position is based on strong communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills are required. This position will be leading multiple design efforts among many different projects around the country.  The Design Manager must have the ability to effectively manage multiple projects, tasks and priorities.
  • Familiarity with aspects of construction management, including construction terminology, a working knowledge of codes and lifesafety, construction documents, sequencing and an overall knowledge of project delivery “from concept to closeout.”
  • Familiarity with reserve/budget programs and philosophy, including an understanding of useful life expectations and value on a variety of interior and exterior components.
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work productively in a fast paced environment and be flexible to changing parameters.
  • Ability to lead, supervise and guide design teams throughout the project lifespan.
  • Establish relationships with outsource design firms to provide a dependable “stable” of qualified consultants. Evaluate and recommend existing and new teams.
  • Computer proficiency to include the use of email (Outlook), spreadsheets (Excel), documents (Word), drawing (AutoCAD or Revit), collaboration software (BOX or Teams), presentation software (Photoshop, InDesign), Industry Standard Spec writing software, and other programs as needed.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries and concerns from owners, regulatory agencies, or members of the business/resort community.
  • Ability to work with and interpret budgets, financial statements, statistical reports and legal/contractual documentation.
  • Ability to possess skills in team building, negotiating, problem solving, leadership, short and long term planning.
  • Ability to effectively present information to Corporate and public groups and employees.
  • Licenses, Certificates & Registrations
  • Valid Driver’s License, Professional designation or other industry related certifications are a plus but not required.
  • Must be willing to travel to WynD projects, domestically, the Caribbean, Mexico and Canada. This may include trips of up to a week duration and possibly include weekends. Up to 20% of the Design Manager’s time may be dedicated to travel.
