The Director of Network Engineering and Operations is responsible for leading and directing a busy professional team of network professionals and support associates including offshore teams and the Network Operations Center (NOC).  The network operations team cover multiple locations and geographies providing round the clock support of the enterprise network including incident response and resolution, change requests and project implementation. The role is responsible for directing to successfully achieving compliance, security, quality, efficiency and effectiveness targets for all project tasks, on-call activities and other support duties.

The role will relationships with other IT Directors, Service Managers, service providers (vendors), Program and Project Managers to deliver business solutions supporting many disciplines that rely on solid networks.   The role provides strategic business aligned leadership and develops departmental goals and strategies that positioning the organization to meet strategic objectives into the future.  The role provides fiscal leadership through the development of capital and expense budgets and provides budgetary tracking to ensure accuracy of departmental and project budget/forecasts. Fundamental to success is the development of strategic partnerships with service provider, external and internal partners and affiliates,  identify and address  risk, reporting performance against SLAs and KPIs while maintaining complaint and secure solutions and services.   This leadership role will direct teams through resource planning, secure and complaint infrastructure that ensure projects and initiatives complete on-time, in-scope, and within budget.   

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain a stable network and network technologies that facilitates customer interactions and agent transaction processing. Seek opportunities to secure/harden the infrastructure and improve the proactive monitoring of critical components to ensure optimal performance and stability in a changing landscape while maintaining cost effectiveness and compliance. Participates in in technology testing, evaluation and selection of products, equipment, vendors, and services.

  • Manage the relationship and performance of contractors, technology vendors (and work effectively with functional counterparts at each of our business outsource partners. Ensures the compliance of architecture design and implementations. Work with vendors to provide timely delivery of solutions and services at best possible cost.  

  • Continually evaluate current capabilities and limitations (risk) against alternative solutions and industry best practices to aid in the development of service migrations / roadmaps.  Lead efforts related to service restoration and root cause analysis. Work through outsource partner counterparts to remedy service degradations and ensure proper preventive measures are put in place as needed anywhere within the ecosystem.

  • Provide full life-cycle financial oversight from providing accurate quotes for service up until proper invoicing back to the business.  Ensure that all costs meet the customer expectations, and act on business behalf to dispute any discrepancies.  

  • Provides strategic leadership to the team and develops departmental goals and strategies, aligned with our larger organizational and business goals and strategies, aimed at maintaining and implementing stable and operationally sound infrastructures and solutions, while positioning the organization to meet strategic objectives into the future.  The role provides fiscal leadership through the development of capital and expense budgets and provides budgetary tracking to ensure accuracy of departmental and project budget/forecasts. 

  • Generate and provide Operational Reporting against all IT teams via daily, monthly and quarterly reporting packages. Used to track performance against committed SLAs and KPIs to business units and customers.

  • Performs other duties as needed (5% time)

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems, Telecommunications, or related technical field and/or related experience.  8+ years of experience managing technical infrastructures and staff. Master’s degree a related technical field and/or business preferred. 

Training requirements

  • Professional, certification in voice and software technology and / or vendor qualifications (i.e. Cisco etc.) preferred.

Knowledge and skills

  • Extensive knowledge local and wide area network technologies.

  • Ability to work under pressure, good oral and written communication skills, and ability to work long hours when needed during service interruptions and implementations.  Ability to provide strategic directions to technical and business organizations. 

Technical Skills

  • Technical understanding network technologies in complex multi customer ecosystems.  Past experience with networking technologies, the support of voice related networks services, and network support from large data centers to small offices is essential.     Quality monitoring and reporting is required and reporting achievement or remedial action needed to achieve KPIs and SLAs.      

Job experience

  • 8+ year’s managerial experience in a similar role.   Must possess excellent customer service, follow up and organizational skills, and have demonstrated the ability to operate successfully in a time-sensitive and fast-paced environment as well as stay  abreast of industry standards, monitors and reviews best practices, and makes changes as necessary

Experience equivalent to the education requirement may be accepted in lieu of the education requirement.
